Review – Hobbytime Sparkle Yarn

I buy yarn from pretty much anywhere and everywhere (only place I haven’t so far is online because I like to squish before I buy. I’m not the only one right??). Recently a family member stopped crocheting and gifted me a huge bag of yarn. I have a few different types of sparkle yarn but hadn’t tried this one before. Its called Hobbytime sparkle yarn.

Because it was gifted I’m not sure where it comes from. I initially thought Poundland but I have since purchased some from Poundland, there’s is called Knitting essential yarn and the metallic thread through the yarn isn’t as bright as it is in this yarn. If anyone knows please let me know in the comments. I have searched (and googled) but I could only find a couple of people selling it on eBay!

The yarn comes in 50g balls of various colours with a metallic thread making it a sparkle yarn. I like how the sparkle really stands out and is bright. The yarn is 98% acrylic and 2% metallic yarn. If I find where you can purchase this yarn I’ll update this post with where and costs. One of the yarns does have a buy 2 get 1 free sticker so that’s always promising!

I was given yarn in purple, pink, black, grey and blue. So far I have used it to crochet dragon egg dice bags and knit a scarf.

The yarn is a nice weight. Sometimes the metallic thread running through it came apart from the yarn (it looks like it is twisted into the yarn so it untwists) and would get caught on my hook and needles but this is easily corrected. It was a lot better than some other yarns with a metallic thread in them have been when I’ve tried them.

After finishing the knitted scarf I did find that it did have a slight scratchy feel to it which I believe is due to the metallic thread. For the dice bags it was perfect. I haven’t tried washing it yet but will update when I do (no need to wash the dice bags and the scarf is a gift so it’s all wrapped up!).

How would you rate this yarn out of 10? 9/10

Would I buy this again? YES (If i can work out where its from!)

Would I recommend? YES

Any crafty items you’d like to see me review? Leave them in the comments below!

NB: EDITED/UPDATED – after a trip into town I saw this yarn in poundworld selling for £1

No, you are not the only one. In fact I just blogged about this the day before yesterday. I unfortunately live in the middle of no where so unless I go on a trip or purchase from WalMart I don’t get to squish before it gets to me and it gives me the sads. You never know how much you need to squish until you can’t!

I love having a good feel of yarn before I buy it. I can see exactly what I’m getting before I buy it. Thankfully we have a number of places nearby. Having to rely on descriptions or others reviews must be difficult! all that squishy yarn goodness!

I am definitely a squisher too!! Plus I really like to see all of the yarn together on the store shelf so I can pick which color combos I want to use. I do admit though that I cannot resist when I get an email from Red Heart with a Flash Sale then I definitely will buy online. They get me every time!! 😀 😀 😀

Yep, I like being able to see colours too because sometimes even with the best photos it doesn’t quite capture the colours. ooh I’m only signed up to one companies emails. I better get signing up to some more for flash sales, discounts and that good stuff!
